Whenever I visit Brisbane, there is one place I always make a point of going back to — Brisbane Meditation.

Tucked away in the suburb of Nundah, the centre is just an eight-minute walk from Nundah Station, which makes it wonderfully easy to get to without a car. The moment you step inside, you are met with a cosy, warm atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. It genuinely feels like a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of where you come from or what you know about meditation.

Now, when most people hear the word "meditation," they picture sitting cross-legged in silence, trying very hard not to think — or perhaps focusing intensely on a single point until the mind goes quiet. The method taught at Brisbane Meditation is quite different from that, and honestly, it is what makes this place so interesting.

It begins by actually explaining how the mind works. Rather than just telling you to sit still and breathe, the guides walk you through how thoughts and memories accumulate in your mind over time, and how that buildup becomes the root cause of anxiety, stress, and worry.

From there, you are given a clear, step-by-step method to reflect on your own mind and gently let go of the unnecessary weight you have been carrying — the kind of weight most of us do not even realise we have.

But it goes even further than stress relief. The meditation points toward a deeper purpose: returning to your original nature, which the centre describes as the Universe mind. It is the place within you where you can begin to find genuine answers to the big questions — who am I? What is this life really about?

For those who have been searching for something more than just a way to relax, this kind of direction can feel like a real breath of fresh air.

Australia is often held up as one of the best places in the world to live, with its stunning nature, relatively good work-life balance, and open-hearted culture. And yet, none of that makes any of us immune to the inner weight we all carry.

Stress, anxiety, and depression touch people here just as they do everywhere else, regardless of cultural background, education, or religious belief. At the end of the day, we all have a mind, and we all struggle with it in our own ways.

When you learn to reflect on your mind and release the thoughts and patterns that no longer serve you, something genuinely shifts. There is more space inside. Life feels a little clearer, a little lighter, and you find yourself able to move through each day with more intention and ease. That is why I always come back here, and why I keep recommending it to others.

One of the things I also love about this spot is what is right on its doorstep. Just a short walk away is Kalinga Memorial Park — a beautiful, heritage-listed park that sits alongside Kedron Brook and offers a lovely natural setting for a walk or a run after your session.

The park has cycling and walking tracks that meander through the greenery under shady trees, as well as sports fields, picnic areas, a dog off-leash area, and even a charming adventure playground for families. It is the kind of place that feels genuinely restorative, with ducks along the creek, cockatoos in the trees, and water dragons sunning themselves on the rocks.

On my last visit, I ended up doing a loop around the park after my session — which I am going to generously call a run, though in reality I kept stopping to take photos. Either way, by the time I got back to the gate, my mood had lifted noticeably. There is something about moving your body in a green, open space that does something good for you on a cellular level.

And that brings me to something I find myself thinking about often. We spend so much time, money, and energy looking after our bodies — our diet, our fitness, our appearance.

Yet it is the mind that drives all of it.

Everyone knows exercise is good for you, but not everyone follows through. When your mind has less turbulence, it becomes easier to take action, keep commitments, and simply live the way you actually want to live. That is the real value of meditation, and it is why I genuinely believe it is one of the most worthwhile things you can invest your time in.

If you are in Brisbane and curious to try something that goes a little deeper than your average mindfulness app, Brisbane Meditation offers a free introduction session — no pressure, no commitment, just a chance to learn what it is all about and see how it feels for you.

Sessions run both in-person and online, six days a week from 9am to 10pm, so there is a lot of flexibility to fit it around your schedule.

Whether you are a long-time Brisbane local, someone who has just moved here, or simply passing through — I hope this finds you well and gives you a little nudge to begin looking after your mind, not just your body. Life really does feel fuller when you do.
